General Ludendorff Chooses Victory

General von Ludendorff wanted to defend his country. Rather than stay on the defensive and seek a negotiated settlement, he threw the dice and launched an offensive. He believed in nothing less than military victory. His gamble weakened his armies and Germany's ability to bargain a settlement, and rather than recognize his mistake he engaged in denial and blamed his troops.
